SERVICE PHILOSOPHY

 

Pueblo Diversified Industries (“PDI”) is a mission-driven Colorado Nonprofit Corporation whose many customers and stakeholders include individuals with a disability receiving services (“individuals served”), commercial, business and government entities.  Our intent with each interaction is to provide service which is in full compliance with all applicable regulations and which is ethical, accurate, timely, informed and delivered in a professional and respectful manner.  The health and safety of individuals served and the complete satisfaction of our business partners are our daily focus.

 

SUMMARY

 

The Fort Carson Custodian (“Custodian”) performs work under the authority of the Fort Carson custodial contract (“contract”) and follows all supervision, direction and oversight to meet contract-related guidelines, provisions and goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

·         Safety

o    Follow procedures in the safe use of chemical cleaners and power equipment

o    Follow safety procedures to check electrical appliances and equipment prior to use

o    Notify supervisor with recommendations about equipment repair and replacement

o    Follow all safety rules, policies and procedures

·         Custodial

o    Mixes and prepares cleaning solutions according to manufacturer specifications and PDI safety guidelines

o    Sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes floor

o    Cleans rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture

o    Dusts furniture and equipment

o    Polishes metalwork

o    Washes walls, ceiling and woodwork

o    Washes windows, door panels and sills

o    Empties wastebaskets

o    Transports trash and waste to disposal area

o    Replenishes bathroom supplies

o    Sweeps, mops, scrubs and vacuums hallways and office space

o    Transports small equipment or tools between departments

o    Sets up tables and chairs in lunchroom, work centers and other areas as required

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Custodian has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

High school degree or its equivalent required.  Prior custodial experience required.

 

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS

 

Age 21.   Pre-employment background screen, pre-employment drug screen and successful completion of First Aid and other required certifications required.

 

Must be able to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with individuals served, staff and support agencies.  Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times hostile people within the PDI environment.  Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

 

 

MATHEMATICS ABILITY

 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as circumference and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

REASONING ABILITY

 

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

The Custodian will work at PDI’s customer facility at Fort Carson, Colorado.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable persons with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the Custodian is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather).  The Custodian is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can become loud and hectic.

 

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

 

This is an non-exempt, full-time position.  Hours worked Monday through Friday may vary based on work requirements.  Routine evening, weekend and holiday hours may be required to meet contract specifications and PDI needs.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with arms.  The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell.

 

TRAVEL

 

Frequent short-trip travel as required to perform custodial work on the Fort Carson facility.
